Electricity came to Die Gaatjie in Diep River on Wednesday December 13.
The City’s mayoral committee member for area south, Eddie Andrews, switched on the power in the informal settlement.
Elizabeth van der Meulen, who has lived in Die Gaatjie for 17 years, was thrilled to have her home electrified.
The City has installed 76 new electricity connections and public lighting infrastructure in the settlement at a cost of about R900 000.
The settlement is on land owned by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, which, following negotiations, gave permission for it to get electricity connections.
