Diep River police are investigating suspected arson behind the fire at the Constantia Village shopping centre on Friday April 27.
According to City Fire and Rescue spokesman Theo Layne, investigation at the scene led to details of an unknown man who was allegedly seen setting a trolley alight and then running away when a security guard saw
him.
He said fire services re- sponded shortly after midnight.
Deidre Paul-Diemont, spokesperson for Constantia Village which is managed by Growthpoint, said only the exterior of Constantia Village was damaged in the fire.
Arson was the suspected cause of the fire, he said. No one was injured.
